Every great story needs a protagonist and although it can be argued that Suntory probably occupies the position in the ever-expanding success story of Japanese whisky, the Nikka Company can lay equal claim to the role thanks to their huge contributions at the very beginning. When Taketsuru Masataka founded the company in 1934, he was already beginning to see a revolution in whisky consumption within the domestic market. Today that revolution continues with the company’s dedication to innovation and quality showing no signs of slowing.  Now under the control of the Asahi Brewery Company, Nikka owns both the Yoichi and Miyagikyou single malt distilleries. But like their main rival Suntory, Nikka is also equally famous for producing sensational blended whiskies, the ‘Nikka Pure Malt’ range, the highly regarded and very affordable ‘Nikka From The Barrel’ bottling and the ‘Nikka Taketsuru’ range, which firmly doffs a cap to the vision and dedication of their founding father.
